LFW New Faces

AS London Fashion Week approaches, the question on everyone's lips - second only to discussing the clothes on the runway - is "Who's that girl?" Every season new models hit the notoriously fashion forward London catwalks and style watchers whisper to try to guess where she has come from, what other shows she has walked in and what campaigns she has graced.

Always keen to boost your fashion knowledge, VOGUE.COM has created a who's who of the new faces you will see on this season's London catwalks - to make sure your understanding of the beautiful creatures sporting the new collections is as good as that of the clothes they are wearing.

This talented bunch of (so far) relative unknowns includes a sailor, an actress, a photographer, a grade eight pianist and a set of identical twins. Amongst them they have graced catwalks and campaign shoots for Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, D&G, Giles, Comme des Garcons, Nina Ricci and Miu Miu, to name a few - and are poised to take centre stage in London.

London Fashion Week - funded by sponsors including the European arm of Japanese photographic giant, Canon – ranks alongside New York, Milan and Paris as one of the 'Big Four’ fashion events in the world. It is worth £20million to the London economy in terms of direct spend, and generates orders in the region of £100million.

Harold Tillman, Chairman of the British Fashion Council, is a graduate of the London College of Fashion and the owner and Chairman of classic British retailers, Jaeger and Allders. “London Fashion Week is when we present our creativity to the world,” he says.

“Fashion has been an important part of the UK’s cultural scene since the 1960s. In the 1930s and 1940s there was a smartness and an elegance to British tailoring - but in the 1960s we brought an edginess into fashion: The Beatles jacket, flower power, hipster trousers we were always a little bit more exaggerated and innovative. It was a time when we began to lead in music - and we began to lead in fashion, too. The UK has the ability to intrigue the rest of the world with a newness and innovation that is encouraged by our colleges and demonstrated by our designers” said Tillman.
